Convert Nationwide bank statements to Excel, Xero or QuickBooks

Nationwide — a building society, not a bank — labels its statement columns “£ Out” and “£ In”, a vocabulary no high-street bank uses. Rowford’s Nationwide template recognises exactly those headers, so FlexAccount and FlexDirect statements parse first time instead of falling back to generic column guessing.

How Rowford reads a Nationwide statement

The Nationwide template matches the columns as Nationwide prints them — separate money-in and money-out columns folded into one signed amount for export:

DateDescription£ Out£ InBalance

  • The £-prefixed column headers are matched as printed — no other UK template shares them, which makes Nationwide detection unambiguous.
  • Currency symbols in headers never leak into the data: amounts export as plain signed numbers in every preset.
  • Interest and cashback credits parse like any other £ In entry and are reconciled against the running balance.

What ends up in your export

Date (re-formatted per target: dd/mm/yyyy for Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent), the full description as printed, the signed amount, and — in the generic CSV and Excel formats — the running balance. Every row carries a confidence score in the preview, and the whole statement must reconcile (opening + transactions = closing) before you rely on it. Deterministic, template-based extraction: the same statement produces the same output, every time.

Nationwide questions

Which Nationwide statements work?

PDF statements from Nationwide’s internet bank — FlexAccount, FlexDirect, FlexPlus and savings statements using the £ Out / £ In layout. Scans and photos are refused.

Do the £ signs end up in my export?

No. The £ appears only in Nationwide’s column headers, and Rowford emits plain numbers with the sign convention each target expects — QuickBooks in particular rejects files containing currency symbols.

Rowford calls Nationwide a building society — does anything differ?

Functionally no: statements parse, reconcile and export identically. The distinct template exists because Nationwide’s column vocabulary is unique, and detection should say precisely what it found.
